1. History

In 1997, the Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam established the Science & Technology Development Journal, with its first issue published in 1998. The Science & Technology Development Journal is a multidisciplinary and multi-field publication with 6 sections, including (1) natural sciences, (2) engineering and technology, (3) economics-law and management, (4) social sciences and humanities, (5) earth and environmental sciences, and (6) health sciences.

After 20 years of development, due to the high number of submissions and in order to introduce its works to the international community, in 2017, the Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City decided to restructure the Science and Technology Development Viet Nam Journal into 7 journals, including the Science & Technology Development Journal continuing to publish articles entirely in English, transforming the 6 sections into 6 journals that publish mostly in Vietnamese.

The Science & Technology Development Journal: Social Sciences and Humanities (STDJ-SSH) was formed from one section of the Science & Technology Development Journal. This journal published its first issue in 2017. Since 2017, the STDJ-SSH has become the official journal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, a member of the Viet Nam National University of Ho Chi Minh City, and is published by the National University of Ho Chi Minh City.

Since 2026, the journal has been renamed to VNUHCM Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNUHCMJ-SSH).
