Interdisciplinary Approaches in Climate Change Studies from 2019 to 2024: a Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract

The study presents a bibliometric analysis of scholarly articles related to interdisciplinary research on climate change. Based on data of articles published between 2019 and 2024 from the Scopus database, the research employed the VOSviewer software to analyze and construct co-authorship and thematic networks. The study yields the following findings: First, the number of publications on climate change with an interdisciplinary approach has increased over time, with a strong concentration in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Australia, Italy, Canada, France, the Netherlands, and Spain. Second, the climate change research during the 2019–2024 period has focused on key thematic areas, including: (1) the diverse impacts of climate change, ranging from effects on human and animal health to disruptions in ecosystems and biodiversity; (2) solutions to address climate change, with an emphasis on community-level engagement and the development of context-specific strategies; (3) the development and updating of mathematical models of climate and Earth systems as a basis for the current situation analysis and climate change impact forecasting; and (4) the psychological and mental health dimensions of human responses to climate change-related information. The results also indicate that interdisciplinary collaboration enhances the ability of researchers from diverse fields to deepen understanding, comprehensively identify causes, and propose appropriate solutions to cope with the rapidly changing climate and societal conditions. Each interdisciplinary research group has contributed to the formation of new knowledge in the field of climate change.
